Storage characteristics of Sequence E, Tra Cu formation, Block 15-1a in Cuu Long basin
Abstract
The article evaluated the storage characteristics of sequence E, Tra Cu formation (Block 15-1a in Cuu Long basin) based on the results of an analysis conducted at the Analysis Laboratory Centre (Vietnam Petroleum Institute). Reservoir rocks of sequence E in the studied area were classified as mainly arkose and lithic arkose, and few feldspathic greywacke, with an average porosity of 9.39%, an average permeability of 0.085 mD, and a fairly high regression coefficient of porosity-permeability relation (R2 = 0.692). Water saturation was measured directly on the fresh core sample and calculated from a number of relations (section II.2). This is a method to evaluate water saturation in comparison with other methods, especially when water-based mud is used. Pore structure characteristics were also defi ned from the capillary pressure curve and it helps to evaluate the storage and flow capacity of hydrocarbon in the porous media during production. From that, the optimal methods for enhanced oil recovery can be proposed.
