Abstract

The furnace is the highest energy-consuming equipment in refineries as well as in general industry. Therefore, finding a way to optimise the furnace’s operation is necessary to improve its efficiency, reduce emission and save energy, which is aligned with the policy of the Vietnamese Government and attuned to global trends.

Dung Quat Refinery has many fired heaters and boilers, one of which is fired heater H-1202 of the Naphtha Hydrotreating Unit. In this paper, for the purpose of improving the thermal efficiency of the furnace and saving energy for the refi nery, the authors collected and analysed data, calculated and evaluated the thermal efficiency of fired heater H-1202; and based on that, proposed optimal solutions in two approaches: i) revamping the existing systems, and ii) adjusting the operating parameters.
